Materials for Artificial Leather Manufacturing
PUD (polyurethane dispersion) for artificial leathers
There are 3 categories of artificial leathers (synthetic leathers) based on the binder polymer used - PU (polyurethane), PU and PVC (polyvinylchloride) hybrid, and PVC artificial leather. Nowadays, water based polyurethane dispersion (PUD) is the key polymer being used in manufacturing artificial leathers. The PUD can be used as skin coat (finish coat) and the tie coat for PU or PVC based artificial leathers, and as the body layer (foam layer) for PU artificial leathers. PUDs, particularly those with high solid content, find their uses in almost all artificial leather manufacturing processes – coagulation (wet process), transfer coating (dry process), and direct coating process. New generation PUDs can now essentially replace all the solvent based processes, without impacting the artificial leathers’ mechanical properties, soft feel, breathability and other performance parameters. Additional advantages of using PUDs in making artificial leather are energy and operational costs saving, as well as easier to comply with increasingly stricter environment and health regulations. PUD can be used to coat various textiles to improve performance on function, durability, soft feel and air breathability. PUD is also used to produce the skin coat in the manufacturing bicast leather with split leather.
We supply a selected series of new generation PUDs to provide excellent performance in artificial leathers: good mechanical properties, flexibility, hand-feel, good compatibility with UV stabilizer, flame retardant, dynes, additives or other ionic substrates, as well as being environment and health friendly.
